My Son Sanctuary: The Champa Kingdom Heritage

Explore the ancient Hindu temple complex of the Champa Kingdom. A UNESCO World Heritage site hidden in a lush valley near Hoi An.

A. Overview

My Son Sanctuary is a collection of partially ruined Hindu temples built by the Champa kings between the 4th and 14th centuries. Located in a green valley surrounded by mountains, this UNESCO World Heritage site is often compared to Angkor Wat in Cambodia. It is the best place to learn about the ancient spiritual history of Central Vietnam.

C. Useful Tips

  • Sunrise Tour: We highly recommend the Sunrise Tour (departing Hoi An at 05:00 AM). You can see the temples in the cool morning air and avoid the large tourist crowds that arrive after 09:00 AM.
  • Champa Dance: Don’t miss the traditional Champa dance performances at the main stage. They usually happen at 09:15 AM, 10:45 AM, 02:00 PM, and 03:30 PM.
  • Sun Protection: Most of the temples are in open areas. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water.
