Ta Van Village: The Peace of Muong Hoa Valley

A serene Giay and Hmong ethnic village nestled deep in the Muong Hoa Valley. Famous for its breathtaking rice terraces, traditional homestays, and authentic mountain trekking trails.

Overview

Located about 10km from Sapa town, Ta Van Village is a hidden gem in the heart of the Muong Hoa Valley. Unlike the more touristy Cat Cat, Ta Van offers a more peaceful and authentic experience. The village is home to the Giay, Hmong, and Red Dao ethnic groups, living in harmony amidst vast terraced fields and the gentle stream of the Muong Hoa River.

Useful Tips

Last Updated: May 2026

Pricing Disclaimer: Prices are for reference only and are subject to change depending on local management and the season.

  • Trekking Gear: The trails can be very muddy and slippery. Good trekking boots and a rain poncho are essential.
  • Best Time to Visit: September to early October is the golden season when the rice terraces turn yellow. April to May is the watering season, reflecting the sky like a mirror.
  • Local Guides: We suggest hiring a local ethnic guide. They know the secret paths that avoid the main roads and will share fascinating stories about their culture.
  • Photography: The ancient Cau May (Rattan Bridge) and the suspension bridges across the river are the most iconic photo spots.

VnToYou Advice

“For the most authentic Sapa experience, we recommend skipping the car and taking a 6km trek from Lao Chai to Ta Van. This route takes you through the most beautiful part of the valley. If you want to avoid the crowds, stay overnight in a homestay in Ta Van—waking up to the sound of the stream and the view of the clouds over the terraces is something you will never forget.”
